Conveniently timed to miss the cold snap throughout the U.S. at the start of February, I had the pleasure of joining a dozen friends on a trip to Esperanza Resort in Baja, Mexico. Bill and Jessica Budinger who are Owners at The Residences at Esperanza and dear friends of mine, secured two villas for all six couples to spend a week of fun in the sun together.

It was a delight to actually trade in skis and down coats for summer gear and swimsuits! We spent our days on the tennis court, relaxing poolside, reading on the playa and enjoying preferred rates at championship golf courses (a great benefit of ownership at Esperanza).  Also spending some time in the warm weather were Gray Whales, which we could see spouting and breaching the surface of the water offshore. These whales travel over 8,000 miles from the Bering Sea,to  birth their calves and feed on plankton in the warmer waters of the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez before returning north to Alaska. Unlike those gentle giants, our group returned to Colorado after one glorious week in Los Cabos.

A private dinner on the beach at Esperanza.

As a special closing night celebration, Jess thoughtfully arranged for a private dinner on the beach replete with an outdoor lounge, seafood buffet and margarita bar.  An intimate gathering for twelve and a firepit surrounded by bean bags – quite the send-off after seven days in Heaven!
