Runners’ Highs with Timbers Resorts

Going on vacation doesn’t have to mean rest and relaxation alone. Runners want a luxury residence as their post-course resort, too! If you’re a runner of any distance or level, Timbers Resorts has your number (well, you have to get your own number, really, but otherwise we’ve got you covered).  Let’s look at some of the key runner’s attractions that happen in the regions around select Timbers Resorts luxury vacation residence properties.

Napa Valley: Wine Country

Whether you’re an Owner or a guest, if you’re a runner in the vicinity of The Orchard at The Carneros Inn, located in the Napa Valley Wine Country of California, the options are bountiful.

One of the biggest running events in the region is the Napa to Sonoma Wine Country Half Marathon, which is held July 15. Regular registration is sold out, but charity registrations are still open. This half-marathon hits participant capacity early, so plan on registering early for next year. And, yes, it’s true: mile 10 means the water turns to wine. Grab your cup at the wine-stop and go! (Count on a glass of one fine vintage or another at the end, too).

Similarly, there’s the GunBunFunRun 5K: a bit easier to manage, but also a quick fill-up in this enthusiastic athletics community.

Colorado: Ski-Country

If you’re at a Timbers Resort property such as One Steamboat Place in Steamboat Springs,  The Timbers Club in Snowmass or The Sebastian – Vail, situated in the center of Vail’s pedestrian district, all you need to do is slip on your best running shoes and hit the surrounding trails and bike paths.

For those interested in races, mark your calendars for June 3 with the well known and annually run Steamboat Marathon, Half-Marathon and 5k. (The Marathon and Half-Marathon follow County Road 129 while the 5k takes an alternate route via downtown.) Many One Steamboat Place Owners and Summit Club Members take part in these fun early summer runs. With the snow-capped Rocky Mountains all around, it’s no wonder the marathon was ranked as one of the “Top 10 Destination Marathons in North America” by Runners’ World magazine.

June 15, as running season swings into a decidedly Cajun-style high gear in Aspen, join the pack for the Food & Wine Classic 5K Charity Run.

This year’s inaugural race is hosted by Bobby Flay, television celebrity chef and master of the Cajun/Creole cuisine. On Friday morning of the 30th Annual Food & Wine Classic in Aspen, the day begins early with a warm-up/meet-and-greet in Rio Grande Park. The race kicks off at 7 am followed by refreshments, music (and massages). Proceeds benefit Wholesome Wave, a nonprofit that links local and healthy food sources to the communities that need them. You can register for the race at Active.com.

Later in the year, queue up for the La Sportiva Vail Half Marathon in July, and then plan to pin on your number for the Ragnar Colorado Breckenridge to Vail to Aspen/Snowmass long-distance relay in September.

Open-Sky: Arizona

It’s not just golfers rounding the course at The Rocks Luxury Residence Club in Scottsdale, Arizona. Hoof it for speed in the Arizona Road Racers Open Mile. Or get extreme with the JCC Scottsdale Firecracker Triathlon and Duathlon in June.

Of course, you can go a lot easier on yourself than half-marathons and relays. Each of our luxury vacation locations has athletic (and relaxing) endeavors abound. Our staff can direct you to the right activity every visit.
