PlumpJack’s Latest Vineyard Venture

As an Owner at The Orchard at The Carneros Inn, you still may not be able to get your hands on a case of Screaming Eagle, but you will be one of the first to taste the newest wine from PlumpJack’s new vineyard. Because The Carneros Inn is a partner resort to PlumpJack and CADE wineries, Owners get access to this vineyard so new, the name isn't even released yet.

The PlumpJack Group, founded by California’s Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom and billionaire oil heir and philanthropist Gordon Getty, recently snatched up 36 acres of Napa Valley real estate -- a vineyard and winery owned by Steltzner Vineyards in Napa’s Stag Leap District. But Plumpjack eschewed buying the brand in favor of building its own.

The company shifted Jeff Owens, the assistant winemaker from CADE over to the new property and got straight to work. The first wine from the Cabernet-focused property will be a 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon coming out in 2013. There’s even a second brand in the works that will only be available at the yet-to-open tasting room -- thankfully in easy reach of The Carneros Inn.

The ultra-exclusive invite list for the new winery’s opening is still in the making but will include all owners at The Orchard. Keep your eyes open for your invite.  But don’t worry if you don’t make it this time around. PlumpJack is still on the lookout for more properties to grow its stellar portfolio of vineyards. Maybe a Pinot producer next time?

PlumpJack’s new vineyard will produce 10,000 cases per year with retail prices per bottle ranging from $30 to $150.
